Erecruitment.saps.gov.za Login Guide: Register & Sign In Step by Step
Everything SAPS recruitment-related starts with one account: your login on the e-recruitment portal at erecruitment.saps.gov.za. No account, no application. This walkthrough covers registering from scratch, logging back in, and what to do inside — written for the current 2026/27 intake of 5,500 police trainees, but the steps work for any SAPS e-recruitment cycle.
Before you start: what you'll need
Have these ready and the whole thing takes about fifteen minutes. You'll need your 13-digit South African ID number, a working email address you can access right now (this is where activation and reset emails go — pick one you actually check), and your cellphone number. If you're applying for the trainee intake, also have your Grade 12 certificate details handy, because the application form asks for them right after registration.
One more thing: use a proper browser on a computer if you can. The portal works on phones, but forms with this many fields are much easier on a bigger screen — and you'll make fewer typos, which matters when the portal validates your ID number.
Step 1: open the real e-recruitment portal
Type erecruitment.saps.gov.za into your browser's address bar — don't Google it and click the first ad-looking result, because scam sites buy ads on recruitment keywords. Check the address bar shows the saps.gov.za domain with the padlock icon. If you're ever unsure which SAPS site does what, our portal comparison clears it up.
Step 2: register your account
Look for the registration or "sign up" option on the portal's homepage. You'll enter your ID number, full name as it appears on your ID, email address, and cellphone number, then choose a password. A few tips that save people real headaches:
- Type your ID number twice, slowly. A wrong digit here creates an account you can never properly use.
- Use an email you control. Borrowed or work emails cause problems when reset links arrive months later.
- Write the password down. Somewhere safe, not on a sticky note on your monitor — but definitely somewhere. Forgotten passwords are the number one support issue on the portal.
Step 3: activate and log in
After registering, the portal usually sends an activation or confirmation email. Open it, click the link, then head back and log in with the credentials you just created. First login is the moment most people discover a typo — if it fails immediately, run through our SAPS login fixes before assuming the worst.
Step 4: complete your profile
Don't stop at registration. Log in and fill in your full profile: personal details, education history (that's where your Grade 12 goes), languages (remember, SAPS needs English plus at least one other official language), and contact details. An incomplete profile can stall your application later, so do it now while everything's fresh.
Step 5: find the advert and apply
Inside the portal, look for the current vacancies or adverts section. The 2026/27 intake is advertised under reference TRA26/27 — 5,500 police trainee posts, applications open 21 October to 13 November 2026. Open the advert, read it fully (yes, all of it), then follow the apply flow and attach every document it asks for.
Remember the three rules: one application per person (duplicates can disqualify you), the application is free, and it happens only on this portal. The last intake drew 1,049,998 applications for 5,500 posts — getting yours in early, complete, and error-free is the best edge you've got.
Step 6: track your application
After submitting, you can log back in any time to check your application status. Statuses change slowly — recruitment at this scale takes months — so don't panic if nothing moves for weeks. What you should do is keep your login details safe and your email address active, because that's how SAPS reaches you about assessments and next steps.
Common registration mistakes to avoid
Registering with a wrong ID digit. Using an email you can't access anymore. Creating two accounts because the first "didn't work" (it usually did — check your inbox first). Applying from the main www.saps.gov.za site instead of the e-recruitment portal. And trying to apply through the MySAPS app — the app is for SAPS services and incident reporting, not job applications. Grab it from our official download page if you want it, but do your application on the web portal.
That's the whole flow. If anything breaks along the way, the homepage maps every SAPS portal in one place, and the login troubleshooting guide covers the fixes.
